Receivers come in different sizes and classes, and each is rated for both a towing load and a much smaller tongue weight, which is the downward force at the receiver opening. Confirm as well that the rack tilts far enough to open a hatch or tailgate with bikes mounted, that the anti-wobble mechanism genuinely removes play at the receiver, and that the trays can be offset so wide handlebars and mirrors on adjacent bikes do not collide.

Loading, securing, and living with the rack

Build a loading routine and repeat it identically every time. Tighten the wheel hoop until the front tire compresses slightly, fasten the rear strap, then lift the bike firmly by the saddle. On the road, remember that the rack has changed the vehicle's length and its rearward balance.
